The Rhode Island Board of Education is being sued by several groups, including the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. The groups say the board violated state law when it did not consider their petition asking for standardized tests to be barred from graduation requirements. "The response has to be voted on by the whole board in a meeting," said Elizabeth Wiens, a volunteer ACLU attorney who filed the lawsuit. Board officials, meanwhile, said they will not comment on pending litigation.
