Data from ARC indicate "other" agencies -- which include traditional travel agencies -- accounted for $3.2 billion in total air sales in June, compared with $2 billion for OTAs and $1.8 billion for mega-agencies. ARC attributes the trend to a rise in international travel, which is a strong market for traditional agents. "If you're taking a vacation to an international destination, you want a travel agent helping you. ... Because international travelers will want the help of travel agents, international travel is showing strong," said Chuck Thackston, a managing director of ARC.
