Business Insider bucks editorial norms by handing veto power to advertiser

Business Insider has given editorial approval of its sponsored-content section "The Future of Business" to sponsor SAP, a move critics say blurs the distinction between news and marketing. The section does not include news about SAP competitors, and SAP can veto stories it doesn't feel represent its perspective. "We're choosing stories that are not deliberately in conflict with SAP, but we're not making choices that in any way diminish our ability to tell that story," said Business Insider President Julie Hansen in defending the strategy.
