Calif. employers push back against Kaiser rate hikes

Several large unions and employers in California say Kaiser Permanente has too much influence over health care premiums, and are looking to place restrictions on Kaiser's ability to increase rates. "We are held hostage to Kaiser," said Miguel Santana, a public official in Los Angeles. Safeway, AARP and the California Public Employees' Retirement System are among the organizations supporting legislation that would push Kaiser to provide details about how it calculates rate hikes.
