N.J. coalition launches with aim to pass marriage-equality bill

Advocates in New Jersey this week announced the formation of New Jersey United for Marriage, a coalition of groups seeking to build political support to override Gov. Chris Christie's veto of a marriage-equality bill and also to obtain a court ruling ordering the state to upgrade its civil unions law to allow same-sex couples to marry. "DOMA was quoted by my employer as the reason they wouldn't extend benefits to a civil-union couple," said Mark Brower, who attended the kickoff event.
