U.S. jobless claims rise slightly; orders extend gains

U.S. claims for unemployment benefits rose slightly last week, and nondefense capital goods orders climbed 0.7% last month after an upwardly revised gain of 2.2% in May. The figures suggested steady progress on the jobs front and a possible pickup in growth in the third quarter, analysts said.
