Self-cleaning counters may limit bacteria

A company that already markets self-cleaning windows is working on technology it hopes can be used to make countertops that rid themselves of bacteria. PPG Industries and Penn State University researchers are working together on a chemical layer for surfaces that, when exposed to ultraviolet rays from lights, would produce a reaction that destroys the chemical bonds of bacteria.
