Neglecting health IT has high costs, report says

A report from the National Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Medicine shows that nearly 100,000 preventable deaths occur per year and a half-trillion dollars annually are wasted due to inefficiency within the health care industry. "If adapted and widely adopted, [systems engineering tools] could help deliver care that is safe, effective, timely, efficient, equitable and patient-centered," according to the report.
