Caswell: FDA needs risk-based plan for food safety

The FDA needs a "very comprehensive, risk-based approach" to food safety, says Julie Caswell, a University of Massachusetts Amherst professor who served on a committee studying how to safeguard the U.S. food supply. Caswell says the agency needs an overall strategic plan based on data showing who is getting sick from what foods and where risks are coming from.
