Study: Treatment guidelines can improve heart failure care

A Medtronic-sponsored study found that cardiologists don't always follow the treatment guidelines for heart failure patients. However, when the cardiologists were given a package of performance improvement tools to help them comply with evidence-based guidelines for care over two years, a significant increase in the use of beta blocker drugs, pacemakers and cardioverter-defibrillators was observed.
