Survey: Advanced e-prescribing features aren't widely used by doctors

A survey of at least 4,000 office doctors indicated that 41.9% have e-prescribing access, but only 9.6% routinely use the technology for such applications as sending e-prescriptions to drug firms. "Policy makers should expect a substantially longer time horizon to achieve meaningful use of health IT than the five- to six-year horizon of the Medicare and Medicaid incentive programs," the report noted.
