Union Pacific receives $98.3M grant for track work

Union Pacific is receiving $98.3 million to make track upgrades that will allow the freight railroad to host high-speed passenger trains in Illinois. Although issues over federal grant conditions remain unresolved, UP will begin track improvements with this initial injection. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said that what he wants to see is that the money "is putting people to work right now -- good-paying jobs right here at home -- and put the investment in that rail corridor."
