Smartphones, tablets play growing role in Internet usage

Just over half the phones sold in the U.S. during the first quarter were smartphones, contributing to a 130% surge in mobile data usage from a year before, according to Akamai's 2011 State of the Internet report. The report also found that laptop computers still accounted for the highest percentage of 3G usage, followed by tablets and smartphones.
