$4M project to replace roofs at 2 historic towers in Minn. capital

The roofs of the North and South Towers of the Landmark Center in St. Paul, Minn., will undergo a $4 million project calling for the replacement of red clay tiles and the roofing structure. Limestone-based mortar will replace the caulk that seals masonry joints in an effort to help the building "breathe and let the water out," said Amy Mino, Landmark Center's executive director. The new tiles will be copies of the original from Ohio-based Ludowici Roof Tile, which supplied the towers' original roof tiles over a century ago.
