Obese kidney failure patients get survival advantage from transplant

Kidney transplants have a comparable survival benefit for obese and non-obese kidney failure patients, according to a study in the American Journal of Transplantation. Researchers at the University of British Columbia considered the cases of 208,000 kidney transplant patients. "Our study shows that obese patients derive a survival advantage from transplantation, and obesity should not exclude patients from consideration of transplantation," author Dr. John Gill said.
