Senators' tax proposals to be kept secret for 50 years

The Senate Finance Committee has promised senators that their proposals for changing federal tax laws will be kept secret for 50 years. Only the committee's chairman, senior Republican and 10 staff members will see the proposals, the committee said in a memo. Paper copies will be kept in a safe, and digital copies will be stored on a secure, password-protected server, according to the memo.
