Telemedicine project links specialists to rural N.M. patients

A joint project through the University of New Mexico Hospital and Net Medical Xpress is putting high-definition cameras and audiovisual conferencing equipment in 25 rural New Mexico hospitals to allow UNM specialists to help treat stroke and head trauma patients. A UNM study found almost 40% of rural stroke and neurological patients who were transferred to the hospital could have been treated at rural facilities.
