A thin, flexible glass that avoids the bulk of the polymer capacitors currently in use holds potential for applications in electric vehicle electronics and wind turbine generators. The key advantage of the development by researchers from Pennsylvania State University is that the alkali-free glass stores energy at high temperatures, unlike current capacitors that require cooling.
