Viruses employed to generate electricity

Harmless viruses genetically engineered to boost their ability to convert mechanical to electrical energy have won researchers recognition from R&D Magazine as one of the top technological advances of the year. The development by scientists at the Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has so far generated about one-quarter the electrical output of a AAA battery.
