Aerospace unions lose clout; Spirit workers take pay cuts

Some aerospace workers are becoming wary of the unions representing them and are now more open to helping their employers reduce costs. Spirit Aerosystems, formerly Boeing's commercial airplane operations, won pay and benefit cuts from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Spirit said it is committed to working with unions. However, some technical workers at Spirit Aerosystems are working to decertify the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace.
