Bayer gives up on plan to grow biotech rapeseed in Europe

Bayer CropScience has canceled plans to grow biotech rapeseed inside the EU, but is not giving up on the crop and may seek to import it instead if it can get the European government's approval. Bayer faced resistance by several EU member states, which are not comfortable with biotech crops in general, with countries retaining the right to ban the crops within their borders. A spokeswoman said Bayer CropScience still plans to try for EU approval to import approved seeds from the U.S. and Canada.
