Missouri board to mull action toward troubled St. Louis district

When it meets today, the Missouri Board of Education will likely consider intervention and other options for bringing stability to the St. Louis district, which has just hired its sixth superintendent in slightly more than three years. As an alternative to outright state takeover, a provision in a 1999 desegregation settlement allows for the state to set up a transitional school district led by a small governing body.
