Medtronic to buy Kyphon for $3.9 billion

Medtronic will purchase spinal device specialist Kyphon for $3.9 billion as part of the company's strategy to diversify into new sectors of the market. The deal, which includes an agreement for Medtronic to drop a patent-infringement lawsuit against Kyphon, will give Medtronic access to Kyphon's global sales representatives and products for treating older patients' spinal injuries.
