Time to stop using the "H" word

07/27/2007

Media outlets should stop using the word "homosexual" as a synonym for gays because of its link to a time when gays were deemed mentally ill and its continued deployment as a putdown by anti-gay individuals and groups, according to GLAAD's Sean Lund. "The word 'homosexual' belongs to a bygone era, much like the 'F-word' whose high-profile usage by Ann Coulter, Isaiah Washington and others was decisively condemned earlier this year," he writes. "Both words send a message that gay people are less than you." Read more at The Huffington Post.
