Attorneys criticize proposed biometric-verification system

Implementing a biometric database, which would allow employers to determine work eligibility through fingerprints and retina scans, could give rise to privacy problems, opponents say. The endorsement of the database is New York Sen. Charles Schumer's attempt to "stop employers from hiring illegal immigrants." But immigration and employment lawyers believe that the system won't be effective.
