Groups lobby for longer exclusivity for biotech drugs

The Rhode Island BioGroup and the New England Biotech Association launched radio and newspaper advertisements to gain public support for a congressional bill aimed at providing biotech drugmakers 12 years of intellectual property protection before allowing follow-on biologics on the market. AARP and other consumer groups think five years is enough for biotech firms to recover their investment.
