Many babies who die of abuse were previously harmed

A study in Pediatrics of 72 babies who died from child abuse before the age of 2 found more than half had signs of previous abuse. Data showed the leading cause of death was being shaken. Researchers said many deaths could have been prevented as it appeared the perpetrators acted out of frustration and ignorance rather than a desire to harm the child.
