School, hospital partner to help students with special needs

The East Providence, R.I., school district is collaborating with Bradley Hospital, the nation's oldest hospital for children with mental illnesses, to develop a classroom program for students with special needs. School officials are introducing parents to the plan, which calls for the hospital to assist in teaching 185 students currently taught outside the city at an annual cost of $8.7 million, more than 11% of the district's operating budget.
