Senate reform bill might allow coverage for alternative medicine

An amendment co-sponsored by Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, to include alternative health care providers in health reform legislation has been adopted by a Senate committee. The amendment language would prohibit health plans from discriminating against any provider who has a license issued by a state. Supporters say the bill could save billions of dollars by allowing people to choose less expensive alternatives to drugs and surgery.
