Surge in natural gas extraction prompts pipeline companies to expand

Pipeline companies are expanding their natural gas networks to handle the volume of gas pumped out of shale formations in the Southeast and Appalachia. Kinder Morgan Energy Partners and Energy Transfer Partners, for example, formed a partnership to build two pipelines, and Regency Energy Partners has said it will double its existing pipeline system.
