Canadian Aboriginal adults have high diabetes prevalence

Aboriginal adults had two to five times higher estimated type 2 diabetes rates and were nearly twice as likely to die from the disease compared to the general Canadian population, researchers at the University of Alberta found. More studies are needed to explain the high disease-related mortality in Aboriginal adults and lower diabetes incidence in Alberta than other Canadian provinces, experts said.
