Congress appears no closer to compromising on debt ceiling

There are few signs that Democrats and Republicans are near agreement to raise the U.S. debt limit, as Tuesday's default deadline approaches. After weeks of shrugging off the issue as political theater, Wall Street is signaling alarm. President Barack Obama is working behind the scenes with congressional leaders to get the debt limit raised, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.
