Lawmaker proposes increased transparency in imaging referrals

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, on Friday introduced a bill that would require self-referring physicians to report financial interest in MRIs, CT scans, PET and other imaging services and to list alternative providers for beneficiaries. The Medicare Imaging Disclosure Sunshine Act of 2008 will help address increasing Medicare costs linked to in-office imaging services, Grassley said.
