Palermo, the Sicilian capital that has suffered decades of neglect and corruption, has enjoyed periods of good times in its 2,700-year history. The port city is now on the verge of another golden age as landmarks are being cleaned, roads are being repaired and a newfound pride is emerging. The essence of Palermo, however, remains through its seductive ancient neighborhoods.
