Bill would raise New York hotel taxes

Travelers who use travel agencies, online travel companies and tour operators to visit New York face a 20% increase in hotel occupancy taxes. The Interactive Travel Services Association, which represents online travel companies such as Expedia, has teamed with ASTA to dispute the bill. A representative for state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver says the legislation closes the loophole created by companies paying taxes on discounted rates but not on the rates they resell the rooms for.
