FTC chairman: "Do-not-track" list is under consideration

The Federal Trade Commission is considering whether to launch a "do-not-track" list for online ads that would be similar to the do-not-call list, FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz said during a Senate panel hearing on online privacy. Leibowitz, during his testimony, also described as "very promising" the ad industry's effort to try to regulate privacy on its own. Referring to the private sector, he said: "It's in their hands to avoid legislation."
