Math coaches provide staff development in Georgia district

Two former middle-school math teachers are entering their second year as math coaches in a Georgia district, where they say they help bridge the divide between textbook material and curricula, and assist teachers with instructional needs. The pair also help teachers create effective lesson plans, and they perform research that classroom teachers might not have time for. The math coaches also observe teachers in the classroom and offer suggestions for improvement. One math coach called it "one-on-one staff development."
