Health care spending predicted to outpace GDP growth

The average annual growth in national health spending will be 5.8% through 2020, with an 8.3% year-on-year rise in 2014, followed by 6.2% annually through 2020, according to a study published in the journal Health Affairs. Demand for services will increase as more people get health care insurance under the PPACA, and the report's authors predicted that spending will rise the most on doctor visits, clinical services and prescription drugs.
