Analysis: Draft bills likely first step in Fannie, Freddie unwinding

Although final decisions on legislation to unwind Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will likely not occur until after midterm elections in 2014, recently drafted legislation in both houses of Congress likely represent the first step to unwinding the government-sponsored enterprises. Despite Fannie's and Freddie's recent return to profitability, lawmakers seem committed to lessening government's role in the housing market.
