Keeping the upper hand in a negotiation requires persistence, creativity and plenty of preparation, writes Anthony Tjan. If the talks look like they're going nowhere, look for alternative bargaining chips -- like accepting a higher price, but then negotiating to get more for the money. And if all else fails, be willing to let the other person walk away.
