An American Airlines executive said the carrier expects U.S. authorities to grant it permission by October to form an alliance with Iberia and British Airways. The airlines have applied for antitrust immunity from the U.S. government. AA is betting that competition among airline alliances and global partnerships will help the carrier survive the difficult economic environment. "We remain optimistic that we'll accomplish the approval by October and implement it after that," said Craig Kreeger, senior vice present at AA.
