AAP: Withholding nutrition ethical in some cases

A statement in Pediatrics developed by the AAP's bioethics committee said nutritional support ethically can be withdrawn or withheld from some children with terminal illnesses or severe, irreversible disabilities. The panel said withdrawal would be appropriate if a child permanently lacks awareness and the ability to interact and in cases of terminal illness when nutritional support would "only prolong and add morbidity to the process of dying."
