House approves $7B for Highway Trust Fund

The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved spending $7 billion to fund the federal Highway Trust Fund, and the Senate is expected to act on a similar measure next week. Without an infusion, the fund will run dry within a few weeks. Legislation passed by the House will prevent cuts to the states' federal highway funds, said Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn., chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
