Expedia second-quarter earnings rise on higher bookings

Expedia reports that second-quarter earnings nearly tripled from the same quarter a year ago as the company shed a year-ago charge and saw its bookings rise. The company's profit was $114.3 million, or 40 cents a share, compared with $40.9 million, or 14 cents a share, a year ago. Gross bookings increased 19%, while transactions rose 10%.
