House OKs $79.4B plan for railroads, highways

The House has passed a bill to boost funding for railroads, roads and mass transit to $79.4 billion, a 5% increase over previous levels. Amtrak would get an additional 13%, bringing funding to $1.77 billion. High-speed rail projects would get $1.4 billion. Meanwhile, the Senate is considering its own transportation spending plan, and the two would need to be reconciled before being presented to President Barack Obama.
