Rabies is a major killer in Bangladesh

Health officials in Bangladesh will start next month a program to euthanize, spay and neuter, and vaccinate stray dogs in a bid to curb the rabies threat in the country. The move comes after new statistics indicated that about 100,000 people in Bangladesh were bitten by dogs and more than 2,000 died of rabies in 2009, reportedly the highest per capita rate of deaths linked to the virus worldwide.
