Southwest sees 23% profit increase in Q2

Southwest Airlines reported a rise in net income for the second quarter as operating revenue reached a record $3.17 billion. Excluding one-time items, net income was $216 million, or 29 cents a share, exceeding Wall Street expectations. The company said traffic and revenue trends are positive, and Southwest anticipates strong gains in the third quarter.
