Record temperatures in the Northeast have posed challenges for gardeners, but there are strategies to keep a landscape thriving, writes Anne Raver. She installed hoses in vegetable beds along with about two inches of clean straw to retain moisture. She also makes sure to get rid of all weeds and removes yellowed leaves to protect the vegetables against disease and insects.
