Mandatory sustainability-reporting requirements make companies stronger and more productive, according to a study by British and American researchers. Companies that are obliged to report their environmental behavior are forced to confront their broader corporate behavior, which can mean they adopt more ethical practices, the researchers found. That has a significant positive effect on the companies' long-term strength and stability, the researchers note.
