Carriers are finding value in used smartphones

With the market for used high-end smartphones booming, U.S. carriers say they can profit from trade-ins and more flexible upgrade policies that enable subscribers to upgrade more frequently. "Many of the phones could have a $200 or $250 value. That's what makes this project work," AT&T Chief Financial Officer John Stephens told analysts last week when referring to the carrier's new upgrade plan.
